The 1815 reflects the cultured character of Ferdinand A. Lange. It is richly endowed with intrinsic values but presents itself as a model of gracious modesty. Even the precious gold or platinum cases are unpretentious. The 1815 only reveals its true treasure, the consummately finished movement, at a glance through the sapphire-crystal caseback.

Born on 18 February 1815, Ferdinand A. Lange lived a life in the passionate pursuit of perfection. He was a kind and compassionate man, at once genteel and unassuming. These traits are shared by the 1815, in particular his modesty, as regards the enigmatic name of this exquisite timepiece: although it pays homage to Ferdinand A. Lange, it does not refer directly to the founder of the German precision watch-making industry but instead discretely alludes to his year of birth.

The precious-metal cases are just as unpretentious, underscoring the personality of the 1815 in different ways according to the materials used: with the warmth of yellow gold, the passion of pink gold, or the dignified lucidity of white gold. And the platinum version – in an edition limited to 500 watches – radiates pure understatement.

The bezel of every 1815 A.Lange&Sohne is meticulously polished, as is the caseband of the pink-gold model. Conversely, it is satin-finished in the platinum, white-gold, and yellow-gold versions. The shape of the strap horns brazed to the caseband is characteristic of Lange. The small ridge on the outside facing the case catches the light. Another fascinating detail: the solid-gold crown with the sculpted Lange signature.

The solid-silver dial is inspired by the style elements of the legendary Lange pocket watches. Encircling the classic Arabic hour numerals, the precise railway-track minute scale enables the position of the minute hand to be accurately determined at all times. As was commonplace in a hunting-cased pocket watch, the subsidiary seconds dial is positioned at a 90° angle to the winding crown. It fits into the harmoniously balanced face without infringing on the minute scale.
