The design and development of this new in-house manufacture module requires 15 specialized craftsmen to perform the 165 different operations needed for its production and assembly, which is done entirely by hand. Refined treatments like “perlage” and “diamantage” are applied to every component, even the smallest, such as the meticulously polished screw heads. Extensive quality controls are performed at each step in keeping with the strict technical parameters that ensure both the reliability and aesthetic perfection of every movement.

Debuting at this 2009's SIHH show, Cartier released an homage to one of its most beautiful womens line of watches that began in the early 20th century. The key role of any watch or clock has always been the faithful portrayal of the inexorable passage of time until its end. In today's fast-paced living, decisions are made to the minute, the second and increasingly to tenths, hundredths and thousandths of a second. To escape this contemporary urgency, Franck Muller has moved in the opposite direction: the Crazy Hours was devised as a declaration of independence from the oppression of appointments.

Instead of the hour marker following its normal course on the dial (the usual circular rotation of 1 to 12 hours), it skips all over the dial. The Franck Muller Crazy Hours is a declaration of independence from time, but, paradoxically, also encourages a closer relationship with the watch.
