Richard Mille presents a new version of the extra-flat RM 016 caliber, a watch in grade 5 titanium having received Titalyt® treatment, a first in watch making.

This titanium oxidation process using electro-plasma increases the hardness of the metal and therefore its capacity to withstand friction, wear and corrosion in accordance with AMS 2488D aerospace material norms. This biocompatible treatment is used in the aerospace, automobile and medical industries.

The Richard Mille collection has already established a strong identity and the RM 016, in this Titalyt® version, is given a prominent profile with its exclusively treated case. The case of the RM 016 Titalyt® is immediately recognizable thanks to its unique and extraordinary color.

The case is also shockproof and scratchproof. The strap harmonizes perfectly with the case.

Hublot New Watches-Commando Bang

Last year's trend and this year's too was and is the Black PVD watch. But perhaps the sub-trend is the camouflage watch. First Ulysse Nardin introduced their Ulysse Nardin Maxi Marine Diver with Camouflage dial; now Hublot introduces the Commando Bang in brown and green.

Glashutte Original Senator Chronograph XL

The Senator Chronograph XL by the Glashutte Original manufactory in Saxony has grown considerably. In place of the Senator models’ usual 40 mm case size, this contemporary watch is now available in a handsome 44 mm stainless steel case. The careful case design featuring both polished and satin-finished elements sets off the matt black dial in a very favorable manner.

A scratch-resistant sapphire crystal, antireflective on both sides, provides a generous view of the dial, whose design comprises modern elements such as the clearly contoured appliques and the polished, luminous lance-shaped hands. The totalizers positioned at 3 and 9 o’clock provide visual balance. Both the chronograph’s second hand and the 30-minute counter can be easily seen on the dial of this well-designed timepiece, while another exciting detail around the perimeter is the additional tachymeter scale. Omega Speedmaster Professional Moonwatch Apollo 11"40th Anniversary" Limited Edition

Some of Omega’s product highlights at this year’s Baseworld 2009 fair be the launch of the re-designed Constellation line, the celebration of ten years of the Co-Axial Escapement at OMEGA, the release of the Seamaster 1200M Ploprof and the Speedmaster Apollo 11 “40th Anniversary” Limited Edition watches which commemorate the day in 1969 when a human being first set foot. On the day that Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin stepped onto the lunar surface – the 21st of July, 1969 – the Speedmaster, which has been part of every NASA manned mission since 1963, became Moonwatch – the first and only watch to have been worn on the Moon.

To honor the Apollo 11 mission and OMEGA’s long history with NASA and its astronauts, Omega's main event at Baselworld will take place on Saturday, March 28, 2009. It will feature four astronauts who have walked on the Moon – Buzz Aldrin, Charles Duke, Harrison Schmitt and Eugene Cernan – and another, Thomas Stafford, who has orbited it. This impressive line-up will also include Gerald Griffin, one of the lead flight directors for the Apollo missions and Jim Ragan, the aerospace engineer who was responsible for the chronograph tests which led to the selection of the Speedmaster as the only watch qualified for every manned space flight.

The presence of so many of the surviving members of one of the world’s most elite clubs (only 12 men ever walked on the Moon) is itself newsworthy and Omega looks forward to sharing this important part of its pioneering spirit with visitors to Baselworld.

Breguet Classique Grande Complacation 7637-Minute repeater

Today still, the minute repeater ranks supreme among horological complications. Universally admired, its intricate construction has remained the preserve of a few master watchmakers with the skill and patience to fit and adjust its delicate parts. In 2008, Breguet came out with a new way of designing these technological marvels, fitting them with an entirely re-engineered movement incorporating new materials and featuring innovative positions for the gongs, gong rests and hammers. This patented technique is now in service on Breguet minute repeater no. 7637. Its large, 42 mm white or pink gold case houses a minute repeater movement featuring running seconds at 9 o’clock and a 24-hour (day/night) subdial at 3 o’clock. The crystal-clear sound issuing from the case had never been heard before in any repeater without chimes. The gold gongs match the color of the case while the hard-metal hammers have been polished and beveled – no mean feat for such unyielding material. The hand-wound movement visible through the clear sapphire case back has been entirely chased by hand while, in true Breguet style, the dial is manually engine-turned silvered gold.
